The Smurf Look. But technically that’s just styling, not the actual Abaete clothing. Still, not a fan.
I also didn’t really see how this dress fit with the other looks, but then again, I didn’t find much that tied the entire collection together. Given, that’s not a must, but it is nice to be able to take away certain themes or trends (besides, um … blue tights …)
Looks like Jules and I feel differently regarding the Abaete collection. I loved it. I think the clothes collectively reflectived the theme of southern france and exhibited her personal style.
The blue tights are part of the “styling,” yes. However, we have seen a lot of tights.
And Jules, hate to break it to you, but whether you like it or not, you will be seeing that style of shoe everywhere for the next year.
At the end of the day, you know my motto: examine the trends, take what you like, and make it your own.
What did I do tonight? Well, I woke up blogged, realized I was still exhausted, said no way in he’ll I’m going to deal with the scene at Rock & Republic, so I’m going to trade my Video on Demand on Mogulus for the VOD on Comcast. I ordered Smart People starring Dennis Quaid, SJP, and Ellen Page, opened a bottle of red, and continued to work on the chocolate bar I picked up at the W lounge on Friday. Made some good headway. Off to bed now, I WILL spin tomorrow!
Here’s how you should follow Mercedes Benz Fashion Week with Julia and I:
Live from the Front Row:
- I blog photos from my seat via iPhone, quality is decent
- I livestream to Mogulus from my N95 via Qik, YOU ARE FRONT ROW!
-
Julia live twitters via ghetto Treo
(That’s a lot of technology, Megs would be so proud!)
Post-Show:
- Julia uploads better quality pictures via MacBook Air in the W Lounge
- I recap all shows at end of day on blog
- Video On Demand and Looping Feed on Mogulus
Behind the Scenes:
- Added all the time everywhere!
I promise to twitter more :)
Front row at Nicole Miller yesterday. The pair on the right is Givenchy, on the left not sure.
Trend for fall we see continue into spring: gladitor sandals….on stilts.
LOVE!
Abaete designs shoes for Payless. I love these sandals from today’s show. They will probably retail for around $30. Good buy!
Our shoes today (JA: Bebe, Me: Johnathan Kelsey).
Julia apologized for her Bebe shoes because she thinks I’m a shoe elitist. But I beg to differ see it another way. I own 3 pairs of shoes I love from Payless that get compliments all the time. So elitist no, self-proclaimed style snob, yes.
I liked the chunky wooden platforms at Charlotte Ronson. Julia, no so much.
Also notice these shoes are about a size too small for this poor model. Like it’s not difficult enough to strut your stuff down a catwalk in front of hundreds of people in big shoes, let’s make it more fun and make them too small. Must be why they get paid the big bucks :)
juliaallison:
Ronson achieves the impressive combo of “impossible for normal girl to pull off” (horizontal stripes) and “sort of looks like you’ve owned it since 5th grade” (the rest of it). Sorry.
Doesn’t sound like Jules was a fan of Charlotte Ronson’s designs. However, she adores the family!
I can’t say I like this dress either, but when CR recombines the pieces in her look book, they seem much more wearable. I have a Charlotte Ronson dress I wore at least once a week this summer.
This was part of Lacoste’s “spa” collection. Needless to say I would wear this yatching on the French Riviera, but I would also find a way to make it street compatible.
The sheer trend is growing stronger as the seasons pass. Sheer dresses, pants, jumpers, etc. Don’t worry, I don’t want to reveal my yaya to world (my almost nipple was enough), but when I find the proper undergarments, I will be rocking the sheer all day long.

NEED TO LOOK GOOD? HERE’S A STEAL OF A DEAL!
After Abaete, I headed downtown to Ilus to pick out some dresses for the upcoming shows.
The best part about Ilus is that you can RENT this season’s styles from your favorite designer at a fraction of the retail cost! You get the dresses for 3 days to wear to your event and return it. For $10 they will dry clean it for you. Brilliant idea.
Check out the livestream of my choices!
A week ago, I interviewed Linda Padka, the owner of Ilus and found a dress for a Gossip Girl party.
More tips from Neal backstage at the Mac Suite. He’s raving about Mac’s Pigment Blonde’s Rich.
He started working for Mac because he found that all of his favorite products for his kit were Mac and he could save a bundle with an employee discount. Good thinkin! Maybe I need to start working in Barney’s shoe department….
Thus far, Abaete is my favorite collection. It’s a little more traditional than I expected, but so feminine and wearable while also having a personality. It makes me miss Temperley. Come back to us Alice!
Cute suit! I bet Julia is dying right now.
